We just had our '50s weatherboard restumped in Ballarat and what an amazing job. Shnai is an amazing communicator and a pleasure to negotiate details with. The 2 gentlemen workers were just that - very respectful of customer and their home. Nothing was too much trouble. They even replaced the temporary cardboard barrier each day around the perimeter that we used to keep our little dogs in and brought our emptied council bins into the yard for us. The clean up after was also very thorough. When leveling they were extremely considerate to achieve the best possible balance between exact level and keeping the amount of plaster damage to a minimum. Highly competitive pricing and just an amazing experience. We give the highest recommendation possible.

Nothing but positives for these guys, Shnai and her contractors provide a second to none service with Shnai being on top of all steps of the process and answering any questions that came up. The group of guys she has working for her are phenomenal and managed to restump my entire house and level the space of a week. And it wasn't a rushed job they simply added more labour to speed up the process. If you need part or the whole of you house done I would highly recommend vic metro, being a contractor myself they provide a level of service and communication that few tradespeople could accommodate.
I can't thank the team enough for quick turn around whilst I'm preparing to renovate. Shnai was a great happy with all the recommendations provided.

Thank you for assisting us during our difficult journey. We had a water damage from our water tank which caused us a lot of issues. Shani helped us with the whole process. To the extent of liaising with our insurance company as we didn’t understand what we had to do. I can’t thank you enough! I couldn’t recommend anyone else.

What Is Underpinning and Why It’s Often Needed in Ringwood
Underpinning is a structural repair method used to strengthen and stabilise a building’s foundation. This is achieved by extending or reinforcing existing footings so they bear on stable ground below the surface soils.
In Ringwood, underpinning is commonly required due to reactive clay soils that expand and contract with seasonal moisture changes. Over time, this movement places stress on the foundation, leading to cracking, settlement, and misalignment. Vic Metro installs reinforced steel or deep concrete footings to permanently support the structure’s weight, stopping further movement and protecting the building long-term.
Signs Your Ringwood Property May Need Underpinning
Foundation issues don’t usually appear overnight. They tend to develop gradually, becoming more noticeable over time. Common warning signs include:
- Cracks forming in walls, ceilings, or floors
- Doors and windows sticking or becoming difficult to operate
- Uneven or sloping floors
- Gaps opening around door frames or windows
- Cracks that continue to widen or reappear after repairs
Ignoring these issues allows movement to continue, increasing the risk of serious structural damage and higher repair costs down the track.
Ringwood’s Soil Conditions and Foundation Movement
Much of Ringwood is underlain by reactive clay soils, which are particularly sensitive to changes in moisture. During wetter periods, these soils expand, and during drier conditions, they contract. This constant cycle of movement places pressure on footings that were never designed to cope with such variation.
Vic Metro designs underpinning solutions that bypass these unstable soil layers altogether. By transferring the building’s load to deeper, more stable ground, foundations remain secure regardless of seasonal soil movement.
How the Underpinning Process Works
Every project begins with a free structural assessment. The foundation is inspected, movement is identified, and the underlying cause is established. This step ensures underpinning is necessary and confirms the most effective solution.
Once the assessment is complete, a tailored underpinning plan is prepared. This takes into account the building’s structure, soil conditions, and load requirements. Vic Metro also manages all engineering input, permits, and approvals, keeping the process straightforward and stress-free.
Underpinning works are then completed using reinforced steel or high-grade concrete footings. These new supports permanently carry the building’s weight, restoring stability, preventing further movement, and protecting the property for decades to come.
